GET UP AND GO

I was praying and I heard the Lord say, “Get up!” This word is rated E for everyone. At times, in life we will feel beaten down because of the circumstances we have to face. The obstacles that we must overcome to get ahead. It wears us out and weighs us down so that we can’t move around. We grow weary even in well-doing. But the Lord encourages us to get up and keep going. “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9) NIV. When the Lord spoke these words, it wasn’t a get up in just our movement, it was a get up in our thinking. Our thoughts interpret what our lives will be like, successful or unsuccessful. The way we think about things is what drives our actions. The mind is powerful and it can lead us where we allow our thoughts to take us. “ We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” (2nd Corinthians 10:4-6). Our thoughts about a situation or someone are what inspires us or expires us. Our inner thoughts derive from our heart condition. “You will prosper as your soul prospers.” (3 John 1:2). As I meditated on the message this morning, a biblical event came to mind.

Sometime later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. 2 Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda[a] and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. 3 Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. [4] [b] 5 One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. 6 When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”

7 “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”

8 Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” 9 At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked. (John 5) NIV.

Jesus did not touch the man or take him by the hand. He simply spoke the words, get up! and the man obeyed and was freed from his bondage. Reading and believing God’s word will free us from the bondage of our negative thinking. It will help alleviate the worries and fears in our lives as we activate the word of God over every situation. “God is not a man that he should lie or the Son of man that he shall repent.” (Numbers 23:19). When we believe what we read or what the Lord has spoken, we also can get up.

God wants us to live abundant lives and the only way to accomplish that is to ask God and walk in obedience to his word and his will. You can be successful in anything you build but unless the Lord builds the house then the builders build in vain. Get up was a powerful phrase because it was spoken by someone who is perfect and knows the plans to prosper you. (Jeremiah 29:11). Today, where things look doom and gloom with increasing cost, and other uncertainties. Get up, seek God’s face and go.
